![]() It also doesn't protect you for any file corruption or some other server glitch - which may sync everywhere. While there is a 60-day "cloud recycling bin" this only helps if you inadvertently delete something and you happen to notice it in time. I think the "Synced and backed up" message you get in Lr is a bit misleading. Lr cloud, is a syncing service - not an "online backup of your photos". To backup also the edits and your album organisation see my comments on this post where I explain that using also LrC (if only for backup purposes) is the best solution if you have a catastrophic cloud failure and want to restore everything back from a backup to the Adobe Lr cloud. See my comments on this very old post: Is Lightroom CC “safe” to use for long term storage? where I explain how to backup versioned copies of just the raw files that Lr cloud manages. ![]() When I get back all the images are already edited and all in my Classic catalog and I can just remove them from the cloud (to save cloud storage) and sync them back so they are as smart previews in the cloud (which do not count against cloud storage) so I can still edit on the iPad if I want.Īnd there's no way of making an independent backup of it either.Īctually there - sort of - is, but you have to set it. On travel I often just carry my usb-c capable iPad and import selected images there and do some editing. I personally use both Classic and Lightroom Cloudy but my main catalog is in Classic. That is neat but does not weigh up against losing control over your originals and not having a real backup without jumping through hoops. It has one thing going for it and that is that your images look the same everywhere you open it because of the cloud library. It does not deal well with large volumes of images (I regularly shoot 1000 images a day), has inferior keywording (no hierarchical keywords) and its export functions are vastly inferior. Lightroom Cloudy cannot print, it has no real support for publish plugins (I rely on these for my website), it forces you to use cloud storage with no real backup.
